The Droid RAZR combines two iconic Motorola brands in one device.
(Credit: Motorola)In advance of tomorrow's Motorola press conference in New York, more information is leaking out about the expected Droid Razr for Verizon Wireless.
Just this morning, Droid Life managed to grab glamor shots of the handset from Motorola's teaser site. What's more, Mobile Burn showed off its goody box about the event with items that represent the "Faster, Thinner, Smarter, Stronger" theme.
As product announcements go that's quite a few pieces of the puzzle already. But as we wait for the additional details, let's take a quick peek at what might be on tap for the big unveiling.
Most recently, Boy Genius Report was able to confirm a number of specifications for the phone, including a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 4.3-inch display. Featuring Gorilla Glass protection, a case molded from Kevlar, and splash-resistant coating, the Droid RAZR sounds to be as durable as it is powerful.
BGR's source said that the Droid Razr is "faster than the iPhone 4S." And as you'd expect from a Razr, "the handset is set to be the thinnest LTE phone released thus far." One can surmise from the accompanying image that the phone borrows a bit from the Droid X design with a hint of Droid Bionic in the shoulders.
Filling in the blanks, the team at This Is My Next was tipped to a number of additional specifications back in September. They should include a 960x540-pixel resolution qHD Super AMOLED display, as well as an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video-recording capabilities. The Droid Razr also should support Motorola's expanding line of Lapdock devices.
Perhaps the one feature that most needs clarifying is the front-facing camera. Rumored to be "HD" in some capacity, it could be the first smartphone to boast 720p or 1080p resolution for photos.
Considering it debuts just a few short weeks after the Droid Bionic--a device that was supposed to "rule all machines"--the Droid Razr has big shoes to fill. But in this case, maybe those shoes are thin.
